Convention de partenariat signée entre la Vallée de l’Energie et Materalia - 9 juillet 2014

On July 8, Vallée de l’Energie went to Metz to sign the partnership agreement with the Materials Cluster Materalia.

Vallée de l’Energie was invited to the General Meeting of the materials cluster Materalia: logical consequence of the meeting held in March in the premises of the cluster which works in Lorraine/Champagne-Ardenne (two regions located in the East of France).

Materalia is a competitiveness centre leader in the field of collaborative innovation in materials and methods. Its members are mainly working in study, design, creation, transformation and materials recycling such as:

  • Metals (steel, aluminium, titanium…),
  • Polymers (heat-hardening polymers, thermoplastics, biopolymers…)
  • Composite materials (metal or polymer matrix…)
  • Glasses and ceramic.

The general meeting of Materalia allowed Vallée de l’Energie to consider the importance of its new partner actions’ which approved around forty projects in 2013 gathering no less than 69 companies. Concrete projects which allowed the creation of 150 employments for a budget up to € 80,000. Some figures that perfectly show the success of Materalia actions’ in fields as diverse as:

  • automotive,
  • aeronautics,
  • medical,
  • energy.

In this way, the cluster supported the company MERSEN, manufacturer of electrical specialties and graphite-based materials of high technology, in its project of methods improvement. The ZIRCOSPRAY project has allowed developing a process "Cold Spray/Brasage": to deposit a thin layer of zirconium on a steel substrate. It is for the manufacturing of chemical reactors under pressure and highly reactive atmosphere. A budget up to € 2,000 k mainly financed by the Unique Interministerial Fund (FUI: Fonds Unique Interministériel).

After a presentation of projects and budgets invested by the cluster, a point was made on the events organized: 39 events in 2013 gathering about 50% of industrialists. Workshops, forums, seminars, technical days and brunches enabled Materalia members’ to meet and share moments of conviviality and business discussions.

Then, the President of the cluster, Joseph PUZO and the director Catherine MAIERON gave the floor to four speakers linked with the business fields of Materalia. The secretary-general of Vallée de l’Energie, David FERREBEUF, showed the activities of the association, its projects and ambitions before signing the agreement between the two organizations.

A partnership ratified that will allow both entities to work on different subjects, to organize common events for industrialists and to share projects involving the know-how of the two centres.
