A walk in the Vallée : backstage at GE

The « Walk in the Vallée », a traditional event organized by the cluster, closed the 2015 edition of Watt Else on Friday 16th October. General Electric opened its doors to 24 professionals from the academic, training and employment networks for one morning. The objective ? To enable them to plunge into the universe of the American giant for a hands-on experience of the expertise developed there. Visits, interactions, introduction to the missions of the Vallée, presentation of GE’s activities… Let’s look back on this honoured immersion.

Balade dans la Vallée : Dans les coulisses de GE

A « walk » to reinforce the complementary aspects of industrial and academic fields

This « made in Vallée » event had in mind connecting industrial and academic spheres and thus offered professionals in education/training/employment a clearer vision of the energy sector carried by the Territoire de Belfort.

These specific professionals are driving forces for a young public or those about to enter the job market and so this event unveils the potential of the energy sector by indirectly impacting career or training choices of young people on the verge of their career.

Those present gathered together within the walls of General Electric on the Techn’hom and had the opportunity to :

  • Visit GE’s workshops
  • Discover the instrumentation laboratory, which works on tests and trials of components and product materials
  • Peek inside a power station thanks to the 3D room

As well as these highlights, the Vallée also presented its sponsoring action «  1sponsor, 1 school ». What is its vocation ? To create or consolidate links between secondary schools and industrialists of the Vallée to introduce the following themes, among others, into the academic environment :

  • Company culture
  • Experience in the field
  • Veritable guidance in obtaining a placement (placement offers pool)
  • Concrete actions enabling pupils to discover industry/energy (Forums, visits…)

Having an official « godfather » or « godmother » in an establishment makes for a rewarding long-term relationship. Concrete, dynamic actions are perpetuated and and are more likely to awaken vocations.
